The father of a former choirboy has filed legal action against Cardinal George Pell and the Catholic Church.
The unnamed father’s lawyers said he is seeking damages for a mental injury that he suffered after learning about the allegations.
One of the choirboys’ fathers has filed a civil claim against Cardinal Pell and the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
His father is suing Cardinal Pell for an amount not yet known to compensate for the “nervous shock” he experienced from losing his son and learning about the allegations a year later.
Pell was convicted in 2018 of abusing two choirboys in the 1990s and was acquitted in 2020 when Australia’s high court overturned the convictions.
The court set down a hearing on Thursday for the suit in August this year.
