Togo Army Takes Responsibility for Recent Bombing in Tone Prefecture

Togolese Armed Forces said it was responsible for the Saturday bombing in c prefecture that killed seven civilians and injured two.

The armed forces released a statement Thursday, saying their aircraft on patrol had mistaken the civilians in the Margba village as jihadists.

Dadja Maganawe, the armed forces’ chief of staff, said the task force conducted surveillance because of threats of terrorist attacks in northern Dapaong.

“Faced with the imminence of the danger and determined to ward off any hostile action that could endanger the populations, the command of Operation Koundjoaré has reinforced land and air surveillance and control of the indicated area,” Maganawe said.

The armed forces said it would take all necessary measures to prevent the same tragedy.
