Putin Fires Roscosmos Chief, Appoints Deputy Prime Minister.

Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin without explanation and replaced him with Borisov Yuri Ivanovich, a hardline Deputy Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation.

“Release Dmitry Olegovich Rogozin from the post of General Director of the State Space Corporation Roscosmos. This Decree comes into force from the date of its signing,” said the Presidential decree.

The Kremlin however did not disclose why Rogozin was removed from his post

“In accordance with paragraph “e” of Article 83 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, Borisov Yuri Ivanovich should be relieved of the post of Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation,” said the Kremlin before releasing another decree saying that he became the general director of Roskosmos.

Rogozin has been CEO of Roscosmos since May 24, 2018 and has recently exchanged tirades with the ESA and NASA regarding cooperation projects and the ISS.

Borisov was Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation from 2018 and has dealt with Russia’s military-industrial complex.
