FBI Most Wanted Mexican Drug Lord Rafael Caro Quintero Arrested in Chihuahua, Mexico

Mexican authorities have arrested U.S. Most wanted drug lord Rafael Caro Quintero in Mexico’s northern state of Chihuahua.

The US Department of Justice offered $20 Million for any information leading to Quinteroi’s arrest.

Quintero, was wanted for a string of crimes relating the the murder of a US drug enforcement agent in 1985:

  • Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering;
  • Conspiracy to Commit Violent Crimes in Aid of Racketeering;
  • Conspiracy to Kidnap a Federal Agent;
  • Kidnapping of a Federal Agent;
  • Felony Murder of a Federal Agent;
  • Aiding and Abetting;
  • Accessory After the Fact

In 2013, a Mexican court freed Quintero after he had served 28 years of a 40 year sentence for the murder of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena Salazar an American intelligence officer for the United States Drug Enforcement Agency.

The court ruled that Quintero should have been tried for his crimes in a state rather than a federal court.
