US Announces Additional $1.7B in Economic Aid for Ukraine

The US Treasury Department. announced Tuesday 12, July 2022 that it will send an additional $1.7 billion in economic assistance to Ukraine to help the country finance the recovery from Russian invasion.

The funds are earmarked for critical operations in Ukraine, such as paying health workers’ salaries, according to the Treasury statement.

The tranch of aid is part of a $7.5 billion aid package signed by President Joe Biden in May 2022. The funds will be channeled through the World Bank (WB).

On Friday 8 July, 2022 the US government announced an additional $400 million in military aid  for Ukraine including weapons systems with “higher precision capability” including four High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and ammunition.
