Lego Shuts Stores and Pulls Out of Russia

Danish toymaker Lego announced on Tuesday that it is ending a joint venture with Russia’s Inventive Retail Group (IRG) and will stop selling products in Russia.

IRG operated 81 retail store locations on behalf of Lego.

While the company did not mention the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as the reason the company is pulling out of Russia, it is just the latest company to announce that they are departing Russian markets, joining: Apple, McDonald’s, Nike, Ikea, Google, IBM, Renault, KFC, Pizza Hut, and others who have already ceased operations.

According to the Russian Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Antón Kotiakov, as of May 13 more than 138,000 workers are on ‘forced vacation’ due to the impact of international sanctions and the withdrawal of international companies from Russia.
