Tourist Sites in Oman Closed Due To Poor Weather Conditions

Oman authorities on Monday ordered temporary closures of all tourist sites across the Sultanate due to unstable weather conditions.

The Civil Defense and Ambulance (CDAA) said that all tourist destinations would be closed until further notice, calling on the UAE residents to postpone road journeys to Oman due to fear of widespread heavy rains.

According to CDAA, the decision came after several cases of deaths and missing people were reported across the country in the past 24 hours.

“Eight people from a single family drowned in the sea after they fell off a cliff near the Al Mughasayl beach in Dhofar Governorate,” Gulf News reported.

Another two Omani citizens were killed when a vehicle they were traveling in swept away in Wadi Ahadn governorate.

According to CDAA, the fatal incidents occurred due to bad weather as well as non-adherence to instructions and warnings.

Meanwhile, Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said that heavy rainfall is being recorded across several parts of Oman today (Monday) and there is fear of thunderstorms over Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates.
