United States (US) President Joe Biden will host a celebration at the White House on Monday honoring the passing of a significant bill to prevent gun violence.
The gun safety law was recently enacted by Biden towards the end of June.
At the bill signing, Biden announced that he would host a celebration at the White House on July 11 “to honor this historic success” with lawmakers who supported the legislation and relatives of those who had lost loved ones to gun violence.
Biden’s spokesman made the confirmation in a report by USA Today that the occasion will be held on Monday.
However, there were no other details available on the White House celebration.
The Fourth of July parade shooting in Highland Park, Illinois, which left seven people dead and numerous others injured, happened a week before the White House celebration.
Lawmakers passed the gun safety bill following the mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, where a shooter opened fire at an elementary school, killing 19 children and two teachers.
The federal gun safety bill encourages states to pass red flag laws that prohibit people who are considered a danger to themselves or others from purchasing guns.
The newly passed gun safety law also aims to close the “boyfriend loophole,” which prevents people convicted of assaulting a dating partner from purchasing firearms.
Background checks are now expanded for people between the ages of 18 and 21.
