At least 16 people have died and 20 others wounded as massive floods ravaged several provinces across Afghanistan on Friday.

Fatal floods hit different districts in Ghazni, Zabul, Paktia, Kabul, Parwan, Nangarhar, Kunar and Nuristan provinces, which also damaged 600 houses partially, with some completely.

A Spokesman for the State Ministry for Disaster Management, Mohammad Nasim Haqqani said that over 5,000 agricultural lands were washed away and more than 1,500 livestocks have died as a result of the floods.

An official in Paktia Department of Information and Culture, Kahliqyar Ahmadzai said the floods inflicted losses to the farms and gardens.

Ahmadzai said that thousands of acres of land have been affected and dozens of gardens, mainly apples, have been damaged by the flood waters.

The affected families called on the provincial and central government to provide them with emergency assistance.
