Rapper Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty has been sentenced to house arrest after failing to register as a sex offender in California.
Petty, 44, was convicted of attempted rape in 1995 and was legally obligated to notify authorities whenever he relocated.
However, when Petty and Minaj moved to Los Angeles, California in 2019, Petty failed to register as a sex offender, which resulted in a sentence of house arrest and a fine of $55,000.
Petty is listed as a Level 2 sex offender on the Sex Offender Registry of New York State.
Petty’s attorneys Michael Goldstein and Hagop Kuyumjian told news outlet USA Today, “We appreciate and respect the Court’s decision granting the defense request for probation and home confinement.”
Petty first entered a not guilty plea to this at a court appearance in 2020 but later modified his plea in September of last year.
Minaj and Petty began their relationship in 2018, but are reportedly childhood friends.
Minaj shared a photo of her husband and son on Instagram a few hours after the sentence.
