Musician Carlos Santana collapsed during his concert on Tuesday night in Michigan due to heat exhaustion and dehydration.
Santana, 74, collapsed during his performance shortly before 10 PM at the outdoor Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston.
Michael Vrionis, Santana’s manager, said that Santana was “overtaken by heat exhaustion and dehydration”.
“Carlos was taken to the emergency department at McLaren Clarkston for observation and is doing well,” Vrionis said.
Steve Oshinsky, one of the attendees during Santana’s concert, said that the music quickly stopped, and medical personnel rushed to the stage.
“He kind of sat down by the drums and fell backward, and then all hell broke loose on stage. He was soaked, he was drenched the whole time,” Oshinsky said.
Concert staff put up a black screen to provide privacy to Santana, turned on the house lights, and asked the crowd to leave at around 10:30 PM.
Santana later thanked his fans for their prayers in a Facebook post.
“Thank you for your precious prayers… Forgot to eat and drink water, so I [became] dehydrated and passed out,” Santana said.
Vrionis said a show scheduled for Wednesday evening in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, will be postponed until further notice.
