At Least Six Killed and Dozens Wounded by Sniper in Highland Park Illinois

Six people have been shot and killed, and dozens more wounded during an Independence Day parade in the city of Highland Park, Illinois.

Police are still searching for a white man, aged 18-20, described as “armed and dangerous”.

The Highland Park Police Department is leading the investigation and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force is working directly with the FBI, said the task force spokesperson Chris Covelli during a news conference.

Covelli added that authorities have recovered a rifle believed to have been used by the shooter. He added that it appeared that the shooter was “shooting from a roof,” but did not provide details of which rooftop.

“This is an active incident,” officials said in an announcement posted to the Highland Park cit website

Residents in the area are advised to “shelter in place” and contact family and friends to make sure they are safe.
