More than 100 Apple retail employees in Towson Maryland voted to unionize, becoming the first retail level workers of the tech giant to unionize.
The Apple employees “have overwhelmingly voted to join” the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), the union announced.
IAM welcomed the “historic victory” and urged Apple CEO Tim Cook to let the unionizing employees fast-track efforts to secure a collective bargaining agreement at the Towson location.
An Apple spokesperson, responding to the Reuters news agency emailed that the company had “nothing to add at this time”.
