Suspected Building Arson Kills 7 in South Korea

At least seven people died while 46 were injured Thursday after a man allegedly set a law office in Daegu on fire.

Authorities received a report that black smoke emerged, and an explosion was heard from the second floor of a seven-story building behind the Daegu District Court.

Reports said the fire broke at 10:55 a.m.

Initial investigations showed that a man in his 50s had possibly started the fire. Police authorities said the suspect caught on CCTV might be a client who had complained about a case.

Daegu Police Agency presumed that the suspect also died at the scene.

Daegu Suseong Fire Station Chief Park Seok-jin said the seven people killed in the fire were found in a room on a corner of the second floor.

Park said the fire rapidly spread but was extinguished after about 20 minutes.
