The European Parliament said it would recommend that the European Union members advance Ukraine’s candidate status in the EU.
Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs David McAllister said the EU institutions must work toward Ukraine’s candidate status to solidify the organization’s support for the country.
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola affirmed that the EU would continue supporting Ukraine.
“We know how important it is to send a clear signal that Ukraine’s place is within our European family. To tell everyone that Ukraine is Europe,” she said.
Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk had appealed to the EU to support the country’s candidate status.
The European Parliament wrote in its recommendations during the plenary session on the EU’s Foreign, Security, and Defence Policy that the world’s strategic goal is to help Ukraine battle Russia’s aggressions.
The EU Heads of State or Government are expected to discuss Ukraine’s candidate status toward the end of June.
