Latvia Bans 80 Russian TV Channels

Latvia has banned 80 more Russian TV channels locally in protest of the Invasion of Ukraine.

The National Electronic Media Council of Latvia (NCESMI) said their decision to ban the Russian channels was in response to the prolonging of the invasion after initially banning just a few last March.

“This decision comes into force on June 9 and will remain in effect until Russia stops the war,” said Ivars Abolins, head of the NSESMI.

Channels such as E TV, Illusion +, Kino24, Mir TV, Hunting and Fishing, Pepper, and Russian Illusion were included in the ban.

“With the decision taken today, not a single TV channel registered in Russia will broadcast in Latvia,” added Abolins.
