A navy fighter jet crashed near Trona in California on Friday, killing its pilot.
The United States Navy said in a press release that the fighter jet, an F/A-18E Super Hornet based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, crashed around 2:30 p.m.
The Navy had not disclosed the pilot’s identity, saying it would not be revealed in the next 24 hours until the pilot’s family had been notified.
The incident followed two other aircraft crashes this week. On Wednesday, the E2-D Hawkeye aircraft crashed off the coast of Virginia, killing a crew member and injuring two others. Another incident involving two helicopters killed a soldier on the same day in Georgia. Both incidents have been under investigation.
