Turkish President and Austrian Prime Minister Discuss Ukraine Crisis

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Austrian Prime Minister Karl Nehammer in a phone call on Friday discussed the war in Ukraine as well as issues concerning bilateral relations.

During the talks, Erdogan told Nehammer that he continued to urge both Russia and Ukraine to use the channels of dialogue in order to put an immediate and peaceful end to the war.

Turkey has been making efforts to ensure a permanent ceasefire between the two sides and also hosted two rounds of talks between Russian and Ukraine delegations, but failed to bear any result.

Erdogan also held several phone calls with Russia and Ukraine and expressed Ankara’s readiness to mediate between them to end the war.

Although Turkey opposed international sanctions on Moscow, Ankara strongly supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty and condemned Russia’s war in Ukraine.
