Husband of Teacher Murdered in Uvalde Shooting Dies

The husband of one of the fourth-grade teachers killed in the shooting at Robb Elementary School reportedly died of a heart attack on Thursday.

Joe Garcia, the husband of Irma Garcia, one of the two faculty members who died at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, died from a heart attack two days later after losing his wife.

John Martinez, Garcia’s nephew, said that Garcia had just delivered flowers on Thursday morning at his wife’s memorial site.

“When he got home, he was at home for no more than three minutes after sitting down on a chair with the family. He just fell over. They tried doing chest compressions and nothing worked. The ambulance came, and they couldn’t, they couldn’t bring them back,” Martinez told NBC News.

Joe Garcia was married to Irma Garcia for 24 years and had four children.

“My Tia Irma’s husband Joe Garcia has passed away due to grief. I truly am at a loss for words for how we are all feeling. PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR FAMILY. God have mercy on us, this isn’t easy,” Martinez said in a tweet.

The Archdiocese of San Antonio and the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary also confirmed Garcia’s death.

A fundraiser on GoFundMe for the Garcia family had raised about $1.9 million (£1.3 million) out of an initial goal of $10,000.
