First Case of Monkeypox Confirmed in Finland

Finland has confirmed its first case of monkeypox, the Helsinki hospital district announced on Friday.

The Helsinki University Hospital informed the public about the suspicion on Wednesday and has now sequenced the case to confirm it was monkeypox.

The hospital district said in a tweet that the patient is now recovering. The man had returned to Helsinki from a trip to another European country.

“The patient that is currently at home has blisters and a high fever but otherwise he is feeling well,” the hospital district said earlier this week.

Governments have been on alert over rising cases of monkeypox in Europe.
