American Pie singer Don McLean Withdraws from NRA Gun Convention After Texas Shooting

American Pie singer Don McLean has withdrawn from this weekend’s National Rifle Association convention in Texas after Tuesday’s tragic shooting at an elementary school.

“I have decided it would be disrespectful and hurtful for me to perform. I’m sure all the folks planning to attend this event are shocked and sickened by these events as well. I share the sorrow for this terrible, cruel loss with the rest of the nation,” McLean said.

There have been calls for the National Rifle Association to cancel its event at the George R. Brown Convention Center, which is being headlined by former President Donald Trump in Houston, about a four-hour drive from Uvalde.

However, ABC13 reported that Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said a legally binding contract prevents the city from doing so.

According to the National Rifle Association’s website, the gun convention on May 27-29 will showcase almost 14 acres of the latest guns and gear from the most popular companies in the firearm industry.

While McLean has pulled out, other musicians such as Lee Greenwood, Larry Gatlin, former Restless Heart lead singer Larry Stewart, and Danielle Peck will still perform.
