Israel Lauds US Decision To Keep Iran’s IRGC on Terror List

Israel on Wednesday lauded the US decision not to delist Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as what it described as the world’s largest terror organization, from foreign terror lists.

“I welcome the decision by the US Administration to keep Iran’s IRGC on the Foreign Terrorist Organizations list — which is where it belongs,” Bennett said in a tweet.

Bennett also thanked US President Joe Biden for this principled decision and for being a “true friend of the State of Israel.”

Bennett said that during his phone call with US President Joe Biden in April, Biden updated him on his final decision to keep IRGC on the terror lists.

“Biden had asked Bennett not to make the decision public as Washington still hopes to reach an agreement with Iran on its nuclear power deal,” The Times of Israel quoted an official familiar with the matter.

The Biden administration feared that the decision could further complicate talks in Vienna to revive the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear agreement with Iran.

The report comes after POLITICO published a report which confirmed Biden made a final decision to keep IRGC on the terror list.

the US placed the IRGC on its (Foreign Terrorist Organization Terrorist List) in 2019, and also the then President Joe Biden withdrew from Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal in 2018 and reimposed new sanctions.

US officials engaged in indirect talks with Iranian, European, Chinese, and Russian officials in the past year to revive Iran’s nuclear agreement, but no significant progress was made and Iran’s demand to delist IRGC from the terror list become a major stumbling block to reach an agreement.
