An Iraqi national living in Ohio was arrested and faces federal charges in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate former US President George W. Bush.
According to court records, Shihab Ahmed Shihab Shihab, 52, who has lived in Columbus, Ohio since 2020, planned to sneak 4 Iraqi nationals linked with the Islamic State terrorist group into the US to assassinate Bush.
Shihab was officially charged with two felonies, namely: aiding and abetting the attempted murder of Bush and facilitating an alien entering the United States for financial gain.
The court documents revealed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) discovered the scheme thanks to confidential informants, one of whom taped discussions about the assassination plot with Shihab in meetings late last year and early this spring.
“They wished to kill former President Bush because they felt that he was responsible for killing many Iraqis and breaking apart the entire country of Iraq,” Shihab allegedly told an FBI informant during one of the meetings.
Shihab characterized himself as a “soldier waiting for directions from the leadership in Qatar” in a January meeting reported in the court documents/
Assistant US Attorney Jessica Knight confirmed that Shihab faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in jail on the immigration charge and 20 years in prison if convicted of the plan against Bush.
