At least two people were killed and 120 others received injuries after a gas cylinder exploded inside a restaurant in the United Arab Emirates’ capital Abu Dhabi on Monday afternoon.
UAE police said that civil defense staff were trying to contain the ensuing fire which took place at Al Khalidiya area, a district close to the sea front.
“64 people, including customers, received minor injuries, while 56 others sustained moderate injuries,” Gulf Today reported.
Police said preliminary investigation reveals that the blast was caused by a gas cylinder explosion, but still investigation has been launched on the circumstances of the blast.
The powerful blast also destroyed several nearby shops and police evacuated four residential buildings for the resident’s safety.
UAE authorities said they are not disclosing the names of injured people at the moment in order to keep their privacy.
