Iran Seizes Foreign Ship Smuggling Fuel In Gulf, Detains Seven Crew

Iranian authorities on Wednesday seized a foreign ship smuggling fuel out of the country, the fourth such incident in the past month.

Mojtaba Ghahremani, Chief Justice for Iran’s southern Hormozgan province said that seven crew members of the vessel have also been arrested.

Ghahremani said that the Iranian navy forces of the naval zone confiscated the ship in Gulf waters, and prevented the smuggling attempt of 550,000 liters of fuel out of the country.

The ship and the crew members were handed to the judicial authorities for further investigation.

Iranian officials said they have seized three ships in the span of one month. The first vessel was seized in 24 of April with 200,000 liters of fuel, the second in 14 and the third in 9 of the same month with 250,000 and 220,000 liters of smuggled fuel.
