Veteran Al Jazeera Journalist Killed In Israeli Raid in West Bank

Al Jazeera accused Israeli forces of deliberately killing one of its veteran journalists while they were covering an Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank town of Jennin early Wednesday.

Shireen Abu Akleh, 51, was a well-known Palestinian journalist and shot in the face by a single bullet and died immediately, an incident Israel said they were investigating.

“We not only condemn but we pledge to prosecute the perpetrators legally to bring them to justice irrespective of how much they try to cover their crime,” Al Jazeera said.

The Israeli forces said they were attacked by heavy gunfire and explosives during the raid in Jenin, and they were forced to fire back.

The Israeli military asked for a thorough investigation in the incident and looking into possibility that Shireen could have been hit by the Palestinian gunmen.

Israel’s Foreign Minister, Yair Lapid said it had proposed to the Palestinian Authority a joint “pathological investigation into the sad death of journalist”.

“Journalists must be protected in conflict zones and we all have a responsibility to get to the truth,” Lapid tweeted.

Lapid furthered that the Israel security forces “will continue to operate wherever necessary to prevent terrorism and the murder of Israelis.”

Al Jazeera called on the international community to not only condemn but hold responsible Israeli forces for their intentional targeting and killing of journalist Shireen.
