Militant Attack Kills Five Egyptian Soldiers in the Sinai Peninsula

At least five Egyptian security forces were killed in an attack in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula early Wednesday, the second deadly assault in the span of one week.

The Egyptian Armed Forces said that another two soldiers received injuries and 7 insurgents were killed as a result of “heroic operations” near a security checkpoint.

The attack came after a deadly ambush at another checkpoint in the Sinai region that killed 11 Egyptian soldiers and five others were wounded.

On May 9, Islamic State (IS) terrorist group claimed responsibility for the previous attack, which was one of the deadliest attacks so far this year.

The IS group said they have killed soldiers, seized their weapons, and burned their checkpoint in Sinai.

No group has claimed responsibility for Wednesday’s attack so far.
