The Deputy Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Colonel Ihor Bedzai, was killed by a Russian jet while he was onboard a Mi-14 helicopter during a mission.
“One of the best officers of the Navy, Colonel Igor Bedzai, better known as the former commander of the 10th Naval Aviation Brigade from Novofedorivka, near Sak, Crimea, was killed in the Ukrainian sky. He was killed in a combat mission, in the crew of a Mi-14 marine helicopter from a Russian fighter missile. He died in the sky he loved and protected,” said Taras Chmut, director of the Come Back Alive Foundation.
Bedzai, a Nikolaev native served as Deputy Commander of the Naval Forces from Aviation and was the acting commander of the 10th Saki Naval Aviation Brigade of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2014.
Bedzai was also the recipient of the Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky III award and has been in major conflicts such as the Crimean occupation.
