Google to Block Accounts of Russian State Duma Deputies

Google began blocking personal accounts of State Duma deputies, including the parliamentarian Nina Ostanina due to Western sanctions imposed against the State Duma.

NEXTA posted a screenshot of Google’s suspension notice on Twitter.

“The Google account has been disabled in accordance with our export restriction and sanctions policies and cannot be restored,” Google’s suspension notice stated.

Nina Ostanina’s YouTube channel, which was linked to her suspended Google account, was also deleted.

The United States imposed sanctions against the State Duma and 328 of its deputies in March.

In total, Biden announced sanctions against more than 400 members of the Russian elite, lawmakers, and defense companies in response to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Google also blocked the downloads and updates of paid applications for Russian users in its Google Play marketplace on May 5.
