Burkina Faso Attack Kills 12

Burkina Faso authorities reported that firefights between unidentified gunmen and army auxiliaries have left 12 people dead.

According to the sources quoted in a report by Xinhua News Agency, gunmen targeted a food convoy accompanied by a squad of army auxiliaries on the Dori-Gorgadji route Saturday morning and killed 10 army auxiliaries and two civilians.

Last week, there were already reported ambushes conducted by armed groups in other areas in Burkina Faso including the province of Loroum and in Ouanobe in the province of Sanmatenga.

According to the Burkina Faso army, twenty dead gunmen were found during recent security operations along with weapons, ammunition, transportation, and communication equipment.

No group has claimed responsibility for the recent attacks but al-Qaeda and ISIL (ISIS) affiliates have regularly carried out attacks in northern and eastern Burkina Faso as early as 2015.
