Mariupol authorities said Friday that Russian forces attacked a vehicle meant to evacuate civilians from the Azovstal plant amid the ceasefire agreement to open humanitarian corridors.
The Mariupol City Council reported that Russian forces attacked the vehicle using an anti-tank-guided weapon. The Russian attack killed one and wounded six “fighters.”
“The enemy continues to violate all agreements and fail to adhere to security guarantees of civilians evacuation,” said the city council.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Monday that units of the Russian Armed Forces and the people’s militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic had opened humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. The ministry also claimed Russian servicemen evacuated 80 civilians from Azovstal to Bezymyannoe settlement in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
In April, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed opening humanitarian corridors with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. Putin welcomed humanitarian cooperation with the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in evacuating civilians from the Azovstal plant.
