Romanian Government Sites Hacked

Romanian government websites have been struck by a massive cyber-attack just after the president of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies vowed to assist Ukraine.

“This morning, access to the sites gov.ro, mapn.ro and politiadefrontiera.ro, cfrcalatori.ro and the site of a financial institution was affected by a series of DDOS (distributed denial of service) cyber-attacks,” said the Romanian government.

Russia-linked hacker group Killnet later claimed responsibility for the attacks on their Telegram page.

Killnet explained that the attacks in response to statements made by President of the Chamber of Deputies, Marcel Ciolacu, who promised that they would assist transferring weapons to Ukraine.

“Our official response: This will be the last thing the Romanian government has done,” said Killnet.

The Romanian government later announced that access to their websites have been restored and claimed that no sensitive data was taken.
