RFE/RL Journalist Vira Hyrych has been reportedly killed by a Russian missle strike at her home in Kyiv.
Hyrych’s remains were found in the rubble of the building where she lived at the morning after the missle strike.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of our Ukrainian Service staffer Vira Hyrych in Kyiv overnight. We have lost a dear colleague who will be remembered for her professionalism and dedication to our mission,” said RFE/RL President Jamie Fly.
Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov claimed the missiles were targeting the factory Ukrainian rocket manufacturer Artem which was right next to the area where Hyrych lived.
Konashnekov however did not comment whether the missiles struck civilians.
Hyrych has been working for RFE/RL since February 2018 and has worked for Ukrainian television before that.
Ukrainian foreign ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko called on the media industry to condemn the killing of Hyrych.
