Shanghai Residents Get Food Poisoning from Food Rations

Shanghai residents reported they suffered diarrhea and stomach pain after eating food ration from the local government.

Shanghai residents took to social media complaints on food rations the local government had sent on Wednesday. Some residents of Xinzhuang Town, Minhang District said the food were moldy, mushy, and had unpleasant smell.

Several residents said they suffered stomach pain, diarrhea, headache, and nausea after consuming the food.

China Economic Weekly reported that the residents received another brand of braised duck Thursday, but the food also had quality problems. 

Residents were advised Wednesday through WeChat groups to stop consuming the food ration.

China has recorded a daily average of more than 20,000 cases of COVID-19 this month. Shanghai has been in strict lockdown since March 28, a measure the Chinese government had taken to achieve zero COVID-19 cases in the country.
