Palestinian Health Ministry said Israeli forces killed a Palestinian man during a raid on the Aqabet Jaber refugee camp in the occupied West Bank city of Jericho on Tuesday.
The man was identified as 20-year-old Ahmad Ibrahim Owaidat, who succumbed to critical wounds sustained by live bullets to the head.
An Israeli army spokesperson told AFP the incident was under investigation.
Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh strongly condemned the killing of Oweidat by Israeli forces, and warned of “the consequences of the continuing Israeli crimes against our people in the cities, villages, towns and camps.”
The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates considered Tuesday’s shooting as a heinous crime and accused Israeli “occupation forces” of committing extrajudicial killings against unarmed civilians living “peacefully in their areas of residence and homes.”
The ministry blamed the Israeli political leadership for giving soldiers a free hand to “shoot and kill Palestinians without any concern for retribution.”
The ministry called on the International Criminal Court to break its silence and immediately begin its investigations into the “crimes of the occupiers” in order to hold accountable and prosecute Israeli war criminals and those who stand behind them.
Violence has surged in Israel and the occupied West Bank at a time when the Muslims observed the holy month of Ramadan, and Jewish holiday of Passover and Christian Easter celebrations.
