120 Firefighters Respond to ‘Intense’ Blaze in Block of Apartments in London

About 120 firefighters are tackling a major fire that broke out on the roof of a block of apartments in south-east London.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) crews, including 20 fire engines, were first called at 1 p.m. and remained at the scene in Creek Road, Deptford as of 6 p.m.

LFB said 13 people had evacuated from the building and there had been no reports of injuries.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.

A video shared by the LFB showed smoke billowing from the roof of the building as fire crews work to extinguish the blaze.

“Fire crews are working hard in challenging conditions,” LFB Station Commander Ian Smith said.

“We’ve increased the number of fire engines because of the need for more firefighters in breathing apparatus,” Smith added.

Smith also urged local residents to close their doors and windows due to the smoke.

Metropolitan Police Officers have cordoned off the area.
