Actor Johnny Depp told the court on April 20 how he severed his finger during a fight with former wife Amber Heard as the defamation trial continues.
On his second day of testimony in a Fairfax, Virginia court, Depp said that Heard had thrown a large bottle of vodka at him, severing the top of his middle finger on his right hand, when they were in Australia in March 2015 during the filming of one of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise films.
Depp said Heard was enraged that he had started drinking.
Depp told the jury that his fingers had been resting on the edge of the bar and that the bottle “made contact and shattered everywhere.”
“I was looking directly at my bones sticking out,” Depp said, adding that “blood was just pouring out.”

The court also saw a photo of Depp’s partially severed finger.
Depp said he had hidden in the bathroom where he texted his personal doctor, David Kipper, that he cut it off himself.
When Depp had been taken to the hospital, he also had told the doctors that he had cut his finger off himself because he “didn’t want to get [Heard] in trouble.”
Depp’s personal nurse, Debbie Lloyd, also testified about the incident, of which she said she heard “different stories from people” as she did not witness the event firsthand.
“I have heard that Amber threw a bottle of vodka at him. I have heard that he had slammed it with a phone,” Lloyd said.
Depp is suing Heard for $50 million over a 2018 The Washington Post op-ed article, in which Heard wrote about her experience with domestic abuse, but did not refer to Depp by name.
