A$AP Rocky Detained at Los Angeles Airport in Connection with November 2021 Shooting

Police detained rapper A$AP Rocky at the Los Angeles International Airport on April 20 in connection to a November 2021 shooting.

In a statement, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said that officers arrested the 33-year-old rapper, whose legal name is Rakim Mayers, for assault with a deadly weapon.

A$AP Rocky was returning from vacation in Barbados with his girlfriend, the singer Rihanna, when LAPD arrested him.

A search warrant has also been executed at the rapper’s residence in Los Angeles, NBC News reported.

A$AP Rocky had been under investigation for a shooting that occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2021 in the area of Selma Avenue and Argyle Avenue in the Hollywood area.

The shooting had not previously been reported to the media.

The shooting victim, who sustained a minor injury, told police that A$AP Rocky and two others approached him on the street with a handgun.

The victim claimed that A$AP Rocky shot him three to four times, according to police reports.

The suspects fled the scene on foot after the shooting, police said.

The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration, police said.

In 2019, A$AP Rocky was arrested in Sweden and was convicted of assault. He was ordered to pay over $1,000 in damages and spent a month in jail before the sentence was handed down.
