Putin Awards Bucha Massacre Suspects

Russian President Vladimir Putin bestowed the honorary title of “guards” on the 64th Motor Rifle Brigade, which Ukraine has accused of war crimes in the killings of hundreds of residents in Bucha.

Putin on Monday issued a decree honoring the brigade for “mass heroism and valor, tenacity, and courage shown by the personnel in hostilities for the defense of the motherland and state interests during armed conflicts”.

According to a report from Ukrinform, the 64th Motor Rifle Brigade was part of the 35th All Military Army of the Russian Federation.

Ukrinform further revealed that the Russian leadership is moving the 64th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade back to Ukraine, according to intelligence data.

The intelligence data said the Russian troops will be tasked with completing ‘special missions,’ which will mostly involve intimidating citizens in Ukrainian communities.

The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine released a list of the names of all the members of the brigade and tagged them as “war criminals”.

“Remember! All war criminals will be brought to justice for crimes committed against the civilian population of Ukraine,” a portion of the post read.
