Japan Orders Google and Meta to Register their Headquarters

The Japanese government has ordered Meta, Google, and other big tech companies to register their overseas global headquarters locally.

According to the Japanese government, companies that have not registered their overseas headquarters would be hard to monitor and could not be subjected to suitable taxation.

Google has not commented on the order while Meta said they were “not in continuous business in Japan.”

Google recently announced that it will fund a submarine cable connecting Japan and Canada called Topaz which is expected to be operational by 2023.
