Iran Seizes Tanker With Smuggled Fuel in the Persian Gulf

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) on Friday claimed it has seized a foreign vessel in the Persian Gulf loaded with 250 thousand liters of smuggled diesel fuel. The name of the ship has not been released.

A spokesman for IRGC’s Navy, Colonel Gholamhossein Hosseini said that seven crew members of the vessel have been detained

“Their cases have been handed over to the judicial authorities for further investigation and action,” Hosseini said.

Hosseini said that IRGC’s naval forces would make efforts to stop any sort of smuggling attempt, especially the fuel.

Last week, the IRGC forces had seized a foreign vessel carrying 220,000 liters of smuggled fuel in Iran’s southern Hormozgan province.

Iran’s Head of the Justice Department of Hormozgan, Mojtaba Ghahramani said at that time that 11 foreign crew members were also detained during the inception of the seized vessel.

Ghahramani said that the confiscated fuel was delivered back to Hormozgan’s oil refinery.
