Ukraine Claims to Have Struck Russian Black Sea Flagship

Ukrainian armed forces have struck Russian Moskova warship in the Black Sea with missile strikes, Ukrainian government officials said on April 13.

“Neptune missiles… caused very serious damage to the Russian ship,” Odessa Governor Maksym Marchenko said on Telegram.

Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Kyiv, also announced the strike.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian Presidential Advisor Oleksiy Arestovych said that “a surprise happened” to the warship

“[Moskva] burns strongly right now. And with this stormy sea it is unknown whether they will be able to receive help. There are 510 crew members,” Arestovych said.

Russian state media RIA confirmed that there was fire on the ship and that the crew evacuated. However, it reported that an accidental ammunition explosion caused the blaze.
