The Fiji Police Force confiscated the superyacht Amadea worth US$325 million allegedly owned by Russian billionaire Suleiman Kerimov.
According to the local newspaper Fiji Sun, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, the Commissioner of Police, verified this on Thursday, April 13.
Qiliho said the yacht had allegedly berthed within Fiji’s Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) before receiving customs clearance.
Qiliho explained that the yacht Amadea breached their law and is currently being investigated.
The yacht is believed to have traveled from Mexico or South America to Fiji and arrived on Tuesday at the Lautoka Port.
Crew members were placed under police custody and are being questioned.
Qiliho said that police were looking into the possibility of other criminal activity onboard, such as money laundering and undeclared firearms.
