Russian Forces Reportedly Used Chemical Weapons in Mariupol

The Azov Battalion has claimed that Russian troops used undetermined chemical weapons in Mariupol, namely within the Azovstal plant.

According to the Azov battalion, a poisonous substance was dropped by Russian drones over Mariupol where they are meeting heavy resistance from Ukrainian forces.

“The persons affected by the enemy’s unknown poisonous substance used in Mariupol are in relatively satisfactory condition. […] Among the civilians, an elderly woman has been reported to be in the worst condition. The main symptoms in those affected are facial hyperaemia, high blood pressure, dryness and burning of the oropharynx and the mucous membranes of the eyes,” said the Azov Battalion.

Deputy Defense Minister of Ukraine Hanna Malyar hasn’t confirmed the report and said that Russian forces might have used white phosphorus but they are still gathering information.

“The chemical attack on Mariupol means only one thing: the Russians cannot take Mariupol and the Ukrainian defenders. And they have no choice but to use indiscriminate prohibited weapons,” said Andriy Biletsky, the founder of the Azov Battalion.
