Religious Violence Breaks out Across India on Ram Navami Festival

Communal clashes broke out in four Indian states during rallies held in various parts of India as part of the Hindu festival Ram Navami on Sunday.

A Ram Navami procession and fair came under attack in Bhokta Bagicha in Hirhi village in the Lohardaga district of Jharkhand, where Islamists pelted stones at the Hindu procession and set several vehicles, including ten motorcycles, on fire.

Reports said more than 16 people were injured during the attack, and about three of the victims were in critical condition.

“Three of them have cuts in their throats with sharp-edged weapons and their condition is critical,” Senior surgeon Shamu Chaudhary said.

Meanwhile, one person was killed in Gujarat’s Khambat city and another in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga, while several people, including police personnel, were injured in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone.

Police Superintendent Ajeet Rajyan said the clash broke out during a procession after two groups threw stones at each other.

Sabarkantha Police Superintendent Vishal Vaghela also said that some people set three to four two-wheelers on fire during the clash.
