Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has recently become the largest stakeholder in Twitter, has decided not to join the company’s board.
“Elon’s appointment to the board was to become officially effective 4/9, but Elon shared that same morning that he will no longer be joining the board,” Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal announced on Sunday.
“I believe this is for the best,” Agrawal added.
Musk, who has been critical of Twitter and accused it of stifling free speech, had recently purchased a 9.2 percent stake in the social media platform, making him its biggest shareholder with 73.5 million stocks.
After news of him joining the board broke, Musk tweeted he was “looking forward to working with Parag & Twitter board to make significant improvements to Twitter in coming months!”
Musk has not tweeted about his decision to decline the board seat.
