Bahrain Says Russia-Ukraine War Threatens Global Peace, Energy Security

The kingdom of Bahrain has called on Russia to end the war in Ukraine to prevent the loss of more lives and also called on the world to play its due role in de-escalation.

Bahrain’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani said that the ongoing war in Ukraine has disrupted world peace and the “violence has cost human lives” that must come to an end. 

In a press conference with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, Al-Zayani termed stability of Europe as stability of the whole world, saying that the Kingdom of Bahrain “hopes that security, peace and stability prevail in all countries in the word.”

Al-Zayani emphasized on cessation of war in Ukraine and stressed upon importance of opening safe passage for civilians and humanitarian and relief aid under the supervision of the United Nations.

Al-Zayani also encouraged Russia to resolve the conflict through dialogue and diplomatic channels.

“Situation in Ukraine has already impacted regional peace, and security, global energy supplies, the global economy and food imports,” Al-Zayani added.

In his part, Lavrov welcomed Al-Zayani to Moscow and said that the meeting opened new areas of cooperation between the two countries on bilateral issues as well as international affairs.

At least 1,563 civilians have been killed in Ukraine and 2,213 injured since Russia’s invasion on February 24.

More than 4.3 million Ukrainians have also fled to other countries, with millions more internally displaced, according to the UN refugee agency.
