Medical Crisis Looms Over Sri Lanka as Drug Shortage Worsens

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has held a protest in Colombo on Wednesday, April 6, and demanded a continuous supply of medicine, equipment, and material for surgery.

A video posted by Sri Lankan news outlet Daily Mirror Online showed doctors, who are part of the GMOA, bringing placards on Deans road Maradana near the town hall. 

Dr. Shenal Fernando, Secretary of the GMOA, has said that Sri Lanka is running out of essential drugs, equipment, and material for surgery due to poor management by the government. 

Fernando has emphasized that it is impossible for doctors to provide health services with the current shortages. 

The protest was also an avenue through which GMOA has opposed the government’s plan to control their unions.
