Israeli Woman Facing Death Sentence in UAE For Drug Possession

The United Arab Emirates has sentenced an Israeli woman to death after she was found guilty of drug smuggling.

The UAE police arrested the woman with a half a kilo of cocaine in March of 2021, Ynet reported on Tuesday without revealing her name and the place where she was arrested in UAE.

The sentenced woman said the drugs did not belong to her and her lawyer is expected to file an appeal.

According to the UAE judiciary, drug smugglers face possible death sentences but executions are rare, instead it is replaced with another penalty.

On February 16, an Israeli man, Khalil Dasuki was arrested in the UAE after he was suspected of attempting to smuggle $136 million worth of pure cocaine.

Dubai Police said at that time that they had thwarted a smuggling attempt of 500kg of cocaine inside the country and it was the biggest drug bust in the Gulf state’s history.

Dasuki, who has a criminal past in Israel, awaits his trial.
