Police in Sacramento, California are hunting for suspects after six people were killed and at least 15 injured in a mass shooting in the city’s downtown.
“Officers located at least 15 shooting victims, including 6 who are killed,” Sacramento police said in a statement on Twitter. They had earlier advised to avoid the area from 9th Street to 13th Street between L Street and J Street “as a large police presence will remain and the scene remains active.”
The police department said the shooting happened early Sunday morning, and police were patrolling the area at about 2 a.m. when gunfire erupted. When they arrived on the scene, a large crowd was gathered on the street and six people were dead.
Another 10 people were injured and sent to hospitals.
Police Chief Kathy Lester told reporters that no suspects were in custody and they did not have a description of the suspect.
This is “a very complex and complicated scene,” Lester said, issuing a plea to the public for witnesses or anyone with recordings of the incident to contact the police.
